Proceeds from the SEVENTH Annual Martignetti Family Charity Bocce Tournament were donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in loving memory of Sandy Martignetti.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering research and treatment of children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. The hospital’s research has helped push overall survival rates for childhood cancer from less than 20 percent when the institution opened to almost 80 percent today. It is the first and only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children, and no family ever pays St. Jude for care. Net proceeds exceeded $30,000 and were raised through players’ fees, raffle prizes, silent auction, closest to the pallino contests, and a 50/50 raffle. The single most important source of funds came from families, organizations and corporations willing to donate at the sponsorship levels. Thanks to all the volunteers who donated raffle prizes and silent auction prizes. Special thanks to Vin and Dianne Spillane for donating the autographed Jacoby Ellsbury baseball bat, which was part of the silent auction.

A huge component of the Tournament’s success is attributed to Carmela and Mario Pagnoni and the volunteers from the Ken Waldie Senior Sports Circuit, Inc., who serve as referees. Mario has been the Honorary Chairman of the Tournament for each of the past seven years. He and the members of the KWSSC also run the tournament part of the fundraiser.

Sandy Martignetti was born on June 3, 1952 in New Rochelle, NY. He was the first Martignetti of his generation born in America. Throughout his life, he was always proud of his Italian heritage but he was just as proud to be an American. He would always remind us of how lucky we were to be living in such a great country but would never let us forget where we came from. His values could be best described in five short words; family, work, religion, freedom and peace. Sandy had a heart as big as a Mack truck. His unconditional love for those he cared about was always felt. He would go out of his way to help those in need before thinking about himself. He had an unmistakable aura about him. Just being in the same room with him would make you want to smile and be happy. Sandy was always happiest when the family was together making it appropriate that we make today's donation to Saint Jude's in his honor with so many of his family, friends, and loved ones in attendance. As devastating as his sudden passing has been, we can find solace in knowing that he is now resting in peace with his father and others he loved who have gone before him. Sandy was one in a million and we will never ever forget him. God Bless you Sandy...we miss you and love you!

5th Annual Martignetti Family Bocce Tournament

Proceeds from this year's fifth annual bocce tournament, held on October 11 at the Sports Zone in Derry, NH, were donated to the First Lieutenant Michael J. Cleary Memorial Fund. Lt First Class Cleary was a highly trained and decorated military munitions expert who lost his life at the hands of a roadside bomber in Iraq, just weeks before he was scheduled to come home for Christmas and to make plans to marry his childhood sweatheart. Jack and Marianne Cleary, Michael's parents, and the rest of their wonderful family, decided to turn their personal tragedy into a positive situation so that their son's legacy would continue and so that the things that mattered most to him in his short life here on earth continued to matter. Their fund supports the families of our fallen heroes and helps wounded veterans get back on their feet when they return home. They have impacted thousands of US soldiers and their families, many who may not have been able to receive assistance elsewhere.

The Tournament raised over $37,400 for the fund, the highest raised in a single year since they were started five years ago. The Martignetti Family wishes to thank all of our vendors, customers, friends, family and employees for their generous contributions which made this gift possible.

'Life Scout' Crafts Garden

The students enrolled in the Religious Education program at St. Mary’s Church in Winchester can now enjoy a new outdoor, lighted learning environment, thanks to the efforts of a “Life Scout” from Boy Scout Troop 507.

Jimmy Benedict, an aspiring Eagle Scout, created a new Learning Garden on the grounds of the Parish Center at St. Mary’s Church, to assist the religious education program as well as enhance the beauty and safety of the facility. (cont'd)
